Scoop acquired Washington Square in June 2014 from Blackstone, acting through LPA Receivers, in its second joint venture with Europa Capital LLP. Washington Square is the dominant shopping centre in West Cumbria.
Developed at a cost of c. £50million, the scheme opened in 2006 and provides prime retail in the town centre, extending to 263,000 sq ft with 60 retail units. The Centre is anchored by Next, River Island and New Look and includes a 427 space car park. Several vacant units were inherited at acquisition, including two which had never been let.
Under Scoop’s stewardship, 25 unit lettings were completed to a range of local and national tenants and 22 lease renewals and/or re-gears concluded. Scoop also oversaw necessary remedial work to the Centre’s car park and finalised the legal adoption of the scheme’s malls.
